"Be yourself; don’t worry and don’t be too cool..."

Co-director Nathan Enix shares his best advice on how to make the most of Stampede.

Senior and Stampede co-director Nathan Enix is working this summer to make sure your experience at Summer Stampede is fun and productive. We asked Nathan a few questions to give you an idea of what to expect out of Summer Stampede:

What goes on during Stampede?

We work with new students to help them register, get them set up on Pipeline and have student volunteers who help them find their way around campus. We talk a lot with students and parents to figure out what they want out of their first semester in college. For the most part, there’s a healthy nervousness that comes with new things, but most people are excited about it.

Describe your role as co-director.

A lot of it is stuff like putting together folders and name tags, putting signs around campus and then we organize registration, so we get here early and make sure everything is set up and we’re good to go.

What’s your biggest piece of advice for incoming students attending Stampede?

Be yourself; don’t worry and don’t be too cool. I know at one time or another in my freshman year, I struggled with all of those, and the quicker you get over that, the most comfortable you will be and college will just be a better experience because you can find people who are more like you. Most of all — don’t worry. I know most of the things I was afraid of, a few months down the road I could look back and say “yeah, that was pretty dumb.” More often than not, it’s all going to work itself out.

Is there anything you wish you had known before coming to Stampede as an incoming freshman?

It’s important to know whether or not you know what you want to major in because, if you don’t know what you want to major in, every department is going to try to persuade you that theirs is the best. If you do know, explore your major beforehand or be ready to look into it as soon as you get here. If you don’t know, be confident that you don’t know so you don’t get talked into something that actually doesn’t interest you.
