Former major league baseball pitcher visits campus
The University hosted Lindyall (Lindy) McDaniel, a relief pitcher from 1955-75 who played for major league baseball teams in both the National and American leagues, Jan. 30.
McDaniel spoke in the 9 and 10 a.m. chapel programs in Benson Auditorium Thursday, Jan. 30. After speaking in chapel, McDaniel also visited with the Harding baseball team about his athletic career and experiences.
McDaniel’s visit was arranged after Dr. Arthur Shearin, professor of music, found out that the department’s graduate assistant, Lindy Gale McDaniel from Jonesboro, Ark., was named after the major league baseball player. The pitcher met with Lindy and her family.
In addition, McDaniel also met for the first time the grandchildren of his brother, the late Von McDaniel, who was also a professional baseball player. They are Liv and Trey Savage of Amarillo, Texas and are both University students.
