Department of Communication
“If you’re not having fun in advertising, you're doing it wrong!” —Retired Assistant Professor Steve Shaner
Welcome to the wonderful world of advertising. Advertising provides a monetary stream to all of the other mass communication mediums in a strategic, creative and fun way! In our advertising program, students learn how to design, write and produce advertisements for every form of media.
Before any professional advertising practitioner creates an ad, there is a process of learning various factors of an ad’s success. Students in this program learn to market a product or service by identifying objectives of messages, targeting a specific audience, developing a creative and convincing story, and knowing which medium to use for best results. Students majoring in advertising learn how to be professional copywriters, slogan crafters, graphic designers and digital media production artists. Learn more about the program by viewing the major's required courses .
