The Center for World Missions provides training for all individuals who wish to prepare themselves for missions. That training may range from a course or two in missions to a B.A. degree in Bible and missions.
Major
B.A. in Bible and missions: Graduates with this degree serve in cross-cultural contexts as church planters and Bible translators.
Minors
Bible and missions: A minor in missions is offered to non-Bible majors and consists of 20 hours of Bible and missions courses. Eight hours of textual Bible courses are required of all Harding students. Beyond these courses in Old and New Testaments that meet liberal arts requirements, the individuals pursuing a minor in missions will be required to take Living World Religions, Missionary Anthropology, and two additional missions courses chosen from the missions course offerings.
Medical missions: A minor in medical missions is comprised of 8 hours of textual Bible as required of all Harding students along with 10 hours of missions courses for 18 hours total. Missions courses are selected from Missionary Anthropology, Field Work in Missions, Health Care Missions, and one additional missions course.
Special opportunities
Harding University Tahkodah (HUT) is a missions training village under the direction of the Center of the World Missions. HUT provides the venue for a variety of missions related classes and experiences.
Students who take Living World Religions participate in a field trip, under the direction of the professor, to either Chicago or Dallas to visit with people of various world religions in their places of worship including representatives of Ba'hai, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and others.
History of Missions provides students the opportunity to travel to Boston and throughout the state of Massachusetts to visit key sites of historical significance to American missionary efforts accompanied by their professor.
Global Missions Experience (GME) takes place every three years at Harding University Tahkodah (HUT). It is a three-day, hands-on training, in missions involving university students across the United States and missionaries form around the world.
Global Missions Conference (GMC) is for mission-minded university students, missionaries and representatives of churches. GMC is in a rotation with GME to provide students an opportunity to experience both activities during their years at Harding.
Global Outreach (GO) provides the organization and oversight for summer campaigns in which students form teams and travel to strengthen mission efforts globally. GO also directs summer missionary intern programs that allow students to work under the supervision of a missionary on the field for six to eight weeks.
Global Apprenticeship Program (GAP) allows the Center for World Missions to partner with missionaries on the field and U.S. churches to send qualified apprentices to work under the supervision of a missionary for 18-24 months as a missionary-in-training.
Individuals interested in forming teams of vocational evangelists to establish themselves in U.S. cities and plant churches in those places receive training and guidance to reach their goals through OutReach America.
Medical Missions Seminar is an annual event that gathers medical mission workers and other interested individuals each January in Dallas. The Center for World Missions assists students who wish to attend this event.
All Missions Fellowship (AMF) is for all Harding students with an interest in domestic and foreign mission efforts. Students participate in a weekly gathering for a period of devotion, prayer and instruction from different speakers.
