Join us for virtual commencement Aug. 15 at 11 a.m. CDT streamed live at streaming.harding.edu and the Harding University Facebook page. While the class of 2020 commencement isn’t what we hoped, it can still be amazing. We have put together a program that is designed to capture the most memorable moments of commencement for you. Be sure to invite your friends and family to join along with you live Aug. 15 at 11 a.m. CDT as we honor and celebrate the resilient graduates of spring and summer 2020.
The first portion of the ceremony will be streamed at streaming.harding.edu and via the Harding University Facebook page. Upon the conclusion of the live portion, visit harding.edu/graduation to view the video reading of the names.
How do I participate? What do I need to send in, and to whom do I send it?
Your name will be automatically included in the recorded video presentation of the reading of the names of graduates from your college. The instructions for submitting your photograph were part of the Google form sent to your Harding email address July 8 with a reminder July 23 and a deadline of July 24. If you did not submit a photograph, a view of the Harding campus will be displayed during the reading of your name.
On Aug. 15, participate by viewing the live portion of the virtual ceremony at 11 a.m. CDT at streaming.harding.edu or via the Harding University Facebook page. Upon the conclusion of the live portion, visit harding.edu/graduation to view the video reading of the names.
Will the ceremonies be recorded, and if so, how can I view it later?
Yes, there will be one ceremony. It will stream live on Aug. 15 at 11 a.m. CDT and will be available to view at any time after at harding.edu/graduation or at streaming.harding.edu under the Dedications, Ceremonies and Special Events category. The reading of the names will also be posted at harding.edu/graduation and available for viewing at any time after the ceremony Aug. 15.
Is there an online program for the ceremony, or a printed program only?
If I want to walk in the next in-person ceremony, how do I get my name on a list to do that?
Yes, you may walk in the next in-person ceremony; however, there are a few things you need to do to process your request.
- Keep your Harding email active by logging into it periodically. All communication regarding participation in a future commencement ceremony needs to occur through your Harding email.
- Contact email@example.com approximately 8 weeks prior to the commencement ceremony in which you wish to walk to make your request known. Once your request is confirmed, check harding.edu/graduation frequently to remain informed about dates, places and times related to the ceremony.
- Please make sure you keep the cap and gown you have received as you will need academic regalia in order to participate in Commencement. Replacement regalia will only be available for an additional fee.
- Because your degree was conferred in an earlier semester, your name will not appear in the Commencement program for the future ceremony in which you choose to walk. Please inform your friends and family to avoid any disappointment at not seeing your name in the program. Your name does appear in the program that is being mailed to you for the Aug. 15 ceremony.
What if I don’t want to participate? Can I get a refund of my graduation fee and return my cap & gown?
The graduation fee covers the cost of printing your diploma, your diploma cover, printing the commencement programs, as well as your cap and gown. In a typical year, the fee also covers the cost of producing the commencement ceremony as well as the refreshments at the commencement reception. This year, the cost of mailing the box of momentos and the costs of the included items take the place of food cost of the commencement reception. Students choose not to participate in the on-ground commencement ceremony every year and are not able to return their cap and gown or receive a refund. You are not required to watch or participate in the virtual ceremony if you do not wish to do so.
Will we receive a DVD of the ceremony?
How will we receive diploma covers or programs?
Your diploma covers and programs, along with several other items, will be sent to the address you provided at virtual GradFest or submitted via the Google form sent to your Harding email address July 8. Boxes will be in the mail by Aug. 1 and should arrive prior to virtual commencement Aug. 15. If you live in the Searcy area, your box will be hand delivered to your home.
How do I send my photograph in to be included?
The instructions for submitting your photograph were part of the Google form sent to your Harding email address July 8 and July 23, and the deadline for submitting photos was July 24.
I do not want to participate in the virtual commencement program, can I be exempted?
You do not have to watch the virtual commencement ceremony. Your name will appear in the program and be read as part of the virtual ceremony, and you will receive a box containing your diploma cover, several copies of the program, as well as a few other items.
