Exercise science at Harding

Students pursuing this major develop a thorough understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the human body and its response to acute and chronic exercise. Students learn procedures for assessing health, fitness and performance; how to interpret the results; and how to develop safe and effective exercise prescriptions for healthy, athletic and clinical populations.

Why study exercise science at Harding?

Exercise Science Club

The Exercise Science Club is for undergraduate students looking to grow and develop in their studies and to better know their peers.

Facilities

The athletic training education program is a part of the department of exercise and sport sciences which shares the Ganus Activities Complex with the department of kinesiology and Harding's athletic programs. This facility includes modern classrooms, a computer lab, the Human Performance Lab, a work-out center with weight rooms, a swimming pool, racquet ball courts, free play gym, golf center, aerobics room and sports locker rooms/meeting rooms.

Christian Perspective

Each class, laboratory and clinical experience is founded on the fact that we are fearfully and wonderfully made, and it is an honor to study God’s creation. With this foundation and our highly trained and motivated faculty living Christ-centered lives, our department is a great place for students to discover their inspired purpose.

What can you do with a degree in exercise science?

Cardiac/cardio pulmonary rehabilitation specialists

These specialists work with patients who have heart or lung conditions to support recovery, fitness improvement and disease management. They are responsible for assessment, exercise prescription, education and counseling, documentation, and risk factor management. Overall, they play a crucial role in helping patiets regain their health, improve quality of life and reduce the risk of future issues.

Fitness and personal trainers

Personal trainers help clients achieve their health and fitness goals through personalized programs, guidance and support. They work in gyms, fitness centers, private studios and even online. Their primary goal is to help clients acheive and maintain healthy lifestyles.

Exercise physiologists

With expertise in exercise science and a commitment to patient well-being, physiologists are essential in clinical settings, sports organizations and wellness programs. By assessing physical conditions and tailoring exercise plans, they help patients manage and improve chronic diseases or recover from injuries.

We are equipping students with practical, relevant, hands-on skills that will help them be effective in graduate school or in the workforce immediately after graduation.
