The Harding Architecture program is pleased to announce the continuation of the Architecture scholarship program to support and encourage incoming freshmen and transfer students in architecture.

In addition to the existing David B. Burks Architecture Scholarship, this year we have added two new scholarships: the Architecture Advisory Board Endowed Scholarship and the SCM Endowed Scholarship. The scholarships range from $1,125 to $5,000 per year.

The Burks Scholarship awards $2,500 per semester ($5,000 per year), and is awarded for five years, provided the recipient continues to meet the requirements. The Architecture Advisory Board Endowed Scholarship and the SCM Endowed Scholarship are one-time awards made to an incoming freshman or transfer student. These three scholarships are awarded to Architecture majors separately from university-wide scholarships, grants, and other assistance administered by Harding Financial Aid. Applicants should complete only one application to be considered for all three scholarships.

Application requirements include the following:

  1. Declared Architecture major at Harding University.
  2. Completed scholarship application (see link below).
  3. Copy of high school or college transcript.
  4. Expression of intent, 500-1000 words: “Why are you applying for this scholarship?”
  5. Two letters of reference, with one from a teacher (architecture/art/design preferred).
  6. Digital portfolio of work; see requirements and tips in the application link.
  7. Submit the completed form with uploaded documents on or before April 7, 2023.

The Harding architecture program includes a summer abroad which will expose students to a diverse set of architectural styles around the world. Travel will take place between years three and four.

An internship is required in the summer between years four and five. The program will assist students in finding internship opportunities through connections with firms across the county.

A chapter of American Institute of Architects Students will be established at Harding University. The Harding architecture program will be a member of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture.

NON-LICENSURE PATH

For those who desire a non-licensure path, a four-year plan will also be available. Students will work through the program in cohorts.
