Art at Harding

Designed to provide the students with a strong foundation in the visual arts, the degree is made up of a 34-hour core of art classes including drawing, design, color theory, painting, art history, three-dimensional media and visual aesthetics. The degree is complemented with 16 hours of art electives where the students may concentrate in an area, or take courses covering a broad range of media and/or art history.

Study abroad

Art, Architecture and Design International is a six-week international program for students studying art, design and architecture. The first two weeks are spent on campus followed by four weeks studying in locations in Europe and beyond including England, France, Italy and Spain.

Chicago Art, Architecture and Design Trip

The Chicago Art, Architecture and Design trip explores various areas of interest. Interior design and graphic design students visit professional firms and agencies. Fine art students focus on galleries, studios and museums. All tour historical architecture and major museums.

The mission of the department of art and design at Harding University is to produce graduates who are knowledgeable, creative and engaged professionals deeply rooted in Christian values. A dedicated, student-focused faculty, who strive to embody these same qualities through a Christ-centered approach to creative expression, scholarship, mentoring, teaching and service, carries out this mission.

American Society of Interior Designers

The American Society of Interior Designers prepares members to excel in a dynamic and evolving profession. ASID strives to advance the interior design profession and, in the process, to demonstrate and celebrate the power of design to positively change people’s lives.

What can you do with a degree in art?

Art directors

A degree in art lays the foundation for careers in a range of fields including roles as an art director in advertising, marketing, publishing, film and television, and more. Experiences in a variety of media as well as study abroad opportunities and hands-on experience will set you up for success. 

Gallery managers

Combining your passion for art with your business skills, you'll be prepared to oversee the daily operations of an art gallery. Your responsibilities may include exhibition planning and installation, sales and marketing, customer service, event coordination and staff management.

Teachers

Share your love for art with the next generation as a teacher at the elementary, secondary or college levels. In addition to continuing to hone your own craft, you'll be involved in lesson planning and assessment, instruction and demonstration, student engagement, and more.
