About the Stevens Art Gallery

The Stevens Art Gallery, located in the Stevens Art and Design Center on campus, is a space utilized as a canvas to showcase many styles of art. Not only are students able to learn from other artists who display their work in the gallery, but they are also able to use the space to showcase and celebrate their own abilities. The Stevens Art Gallery is a space to pause, learn and reflect on the message portrayed by artists from all over the world.

Previous shows hosted in the campus gallery have accompanied campus events, supported nationally recognized holidays, and showcased local artists, faculty and staff, students and professionals. Regular campus events in the gallery include senior shows and sophomore portfolio reviews from students in the Department of Art and Design, visiting shows from traveling exhibitionists, and an interprofessional collaborative branding show.

Visiting Shows

In addition to student showcases, the gallery also hosts visiting shows from displays supporting Black History Month and National Hispanic Heritage Month and works accompanying American Studies Distinguished lecturers to hosting professional artists from around our campus and the world. These visiting shows are available as an outlet for students as well as the public to learn and appreciate diverse mediums and approaches to art.

Senior Shows and Sophomore Portfolio Reviews

Throughout the course of their undergraduate career, students in the Department of Art and Design are required to participate in two shows in the Stevens Art Gallery — once as sophomores and once as seniors. Sophomore portfolio reviews are required after students complete 15 credit hours of art coursework. The review provides students with feedback on their artistic growth while assessing drawing and compositional skills, ability to speak about their work, and knowledge of current professional activity. At the end of their undergraduate career, graduating seniors collaborate to put on a show that culminates their work in the art department.

Branding Show

The branding show is a collaboration project between integrated marketing and communications students, graphic design and interior design majors where students brand a concept for a client. In the past, these concepts have ranged from restaurants to boutique hotels, and the final products from different teams have been on display in the Stevens Art Gallery.
