AI at Harding

Beginning Fall 2025, this new major will include the computer science core plus a strong component of mathematics and four AI courses including technology ethics. You’ll learn how to design and create AI tools and consider how AI can be used ethically to benefit others. In a world where technology is evolving at an unprecedented pace and secularization often shapes its direction, the need for thoughtful, ethical leaders in the field of artificial intelligence has never been greater. At Harding, we’re equipping our students not only to succeed in this competitive industry but also to influence it with a Christ-centered perspective.

Why study artificial intelligence at Harding?

A growing field

According to Indeed.com, 22% of new software development jobs will require AI experience.

First program of its kind

The AI major at Harding is the first of its kind in the state of Arkansas. There are very few programs across the country at the undergraduate level. This is your opportunity to gain skills and experience in an innovative field with innumerable possibilities for the future.

An ethical perspective

What can you do with a degree in artificial intelligence?

AI systems design

You’ll be equipped to design AI systems that adapt to new and changing situations, take in data and map new rules. Opportunities include working for major companies like OpenAI, Google, Microsoft and organizations who are looking for in-house professionals to create proprietary technology.

Autonomous systems and robotics

Imagine designing the algorithms behind self-driving cars, drones that deliver packages, monitor environmental changes or robots that assist in surgery, perform dangerous tasks or explore space. With a degree in artificial intelligence, you’ll have the skills to create smart machines that adapt to the world around them. Whether it’s revolutionizing transportation, agriculture or business or even building robots for entertainment, you’ll be at the cutting edge of technology, turning sci-fi into reality.

Video game development

Turn your love for gaming into a career by creating the next generation of immersive experiences. With a degree in artificial intelligence, you can design non-player characters that learn and adapt, build physics engines for lifelike gameplay or develop massive procedurally generated worlds like those in Minecraft or No Man’s Sky. Plus, generative AI is revolutionizing game development. Imagine using AI to create stunning landscapes, unique character designs or even dynamic storylines that respond to player choices in real-time, enabling the ability to create highly replayable scenarios. Whether you dream of working at studios like Epic Games or Electronic Arts or creating your own indie masterpiece, AI will put you at the forefront of innovation in gaming.
