Accelerated Master of Science in Applied Dietetics Practice at Harding

The accelerated pathway is for qualified undergraduate students, allowing them to complete both a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in applied dietetics practice in five years. Students will complete liberal arts credits and prerequisites during their first three years and finish the graduate program curriculum in years four and five.

Experiential Learning

Students have the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge and skills they learned in their didactic courses to real-life practice in the field. Supervised experiential learning courses occur in the following professional work settings: foodservice, clinical and community and public health nutrition. Sites include hospitals, long-term care facilities, schools, foodbanks, research centers, etc.

Preceptors working in each setting are volunteers who are selected by students and approved by the program. Students will be responsible for locating sites and preceptors under the guidance and direction of the program. The purpose of these experiences is for preceptors to supervise and guide the student learning experiences and for students to collaborate with preceptors in efforts to achieve professional competency in the field of nutrition and dietetics.

Organizations

Student organizations: Students have the opportunity to participate in the Harding University Graduate Student Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Professional organizations: Students have the opportunity to participate in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and their state and local affiliates.

Interprofessional Activities

Students have the opportunity to participate in interprofessional activities with other Harding University graduate students in the College of Allied Health.

The Nu Delta Chapter of Kappa Omicron Nu of the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences, Harding University, holds monthly scholarly meetings, conducts a service project each semester and inducts new members during the spring semester.

In coaching and private practice groups, a Master of Science in applied dietetics practice prepares graduates to offer personalized nutrition and wellness services to a diverse clientele. This program equips dietitians with advanced skills in nutritional counseling, behavior change strategies and business management enabling them to operate successful private practices or serve as nutrition coaches.
