Doctor of Education in Leadership at Harding

The Ed.D. is the highest academic degree of the College of Education and equips candidates with the expertise to work in various leadership positions. The 35-hour hybrid program, designed on a cohort learning model, prepares those who have a passion for learning and leadership. Candidates work collaboratively with a dissertation team that guides, supports and encourages successful dissertation completion. They can complete the program in as few as seven semesters. Graduates will be prepared for roles in private and public education, post-secondary and higher education and state and federal departments of education as well as community, non-profit, business and medical organizations.

This program does not include leveling coursework or comprehensive degree exams. The candidate pays semester tuition (with technical support included) and a graduation/regalia fee during the final semester.

The Ed.D. is a terminal degree with no licensure requirements.

The goal of the Lewis "Tony" Finley STEM Center for Math and Science Education is to meet the needs of P-12 math and science teachers by offering materials that support mathematics and science education standards.

A wide range of math and science materials are available for checkout and classroom use. The Lewis "Tony" Finley STEM Center for Math & Science Education serves teachers by providing access to resources and materials and can offer professional development on those materials.

Application Requirements

*Note: Harding alumni and current students do not need to request Harding transcripts as they are on file.

  • Request recommendations from three individuals regarding the applicant’s professional and/or academic background and potential for success in the program.
  • Upload a copy of your Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) immunization record.
  • Upload a resume inclusive of work experience and professional accomplishments.
  • Upload two writing artifacts from previous work (e.g., thesis, research paper, journal article, field study, grant or specialist project).
  • Applicants from the field of education should upload a copy of their current educator license.

Additional Admission Requirements

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher required on all graduate coursework.
  • Personal interview with the Doctoral Admission Committee.
  • Impromptu writing sample will be requested at the time of personal interview.

Superintendent

Obtaining a Doctor of Education in Leadership is pivotal for those aspiring to become superintendents, as it provides the advanced knowledge and skills necessary for overseeing entire school districts. This degree focuses on strategic planning, policy development and educational leadership, equipping superintendents to effectively manage district-wide initiatives, budgets and staff. With an Ed.D. in Leadership, superintendents are well-prepared to foster a vision of academic excellence, promote equity and implement data-driven decisions that improve educational outcomes across schools. 

Principal

Special education K-12

Earning a Doctor of Education in Leadership with a focus on special education empowers educators to take on advanced roles in the field of special education within K-12 settings. Educators with an Ed.D. can lead special education departments, design and evaluate comprehensive special education programs, and advocate for students with disabilities at the district or state level.
