Establish an Endowed Scholarship

An enduring way in which donors make a direct and long-term impact on Harding’s students is the funding of endowed scholarships. Endowed scholarships are the foundation of our vibrant community because they help make a Harding degree more affordable for students who otherwise could not attend.

These scholarships are funded through current donations or deferred pledges through estate gifts. Once the endowed fund reaches a threshold of $25,000, the scholarship begins disbursing at an annual rate of 4.5 percent of the principle. For example, a $25,000 endowed scholarship would annually disburse $1,125 to qualified students.

Endowed funds are invested, with the goal of accruing interest to exceed the disbursement amount. The investment market’s performance over the past several years has blessed Harding’s endowment, which currently exceeds $200 million.

Scholarships can be designated in honor of the donor or another person, or named as creatively or generally as the donor wishes. Additionally, donors can specify the academic programs they wish to support. Student recipients are typically selected by a committee comprised of professors representing the academic areas, or by the Office of Financial Aid Services if the scholarship is not designated to a specific program.

To begin the process of establishing an endowed scholarship, please complete the Endowed Scholarship Request Form (pdf) and return it to the Center for Charitable Estate Planning.
