Center for Church and City Engagement

Engage the city for the mission of God

The Center for Church and City Engagement exists to provide training, experiences and resources to equip both students and church leaders to engage the city for the mission of God.

The work of the center stretches in two directions. First, it provides ministry experiences in urban contexts for Harding students by facilitating internships, apprenticeships and other city experiences. Second, it offers training and resources for church leaders in urban areas including leadership development, ministry training and networking opportunities. Through these efforts, the center also generates research concerning effective ministry in the city.

The Center for Church and City Engagement is located at the Holmes Road Church of Christ in Memphis, Tennessee. It is a historic, multicultural church located in a predominately Black neighborhood.

The Center for Church and City Engagement launched in August 2024, as a new initiative of Harding University, in keeping with its historic legacy in Memphis through Harding School of Theology. The center seeks to prepare students for an urbanized world and to serve and partner with churches in metropolitan areas.
