Harding School of Theology Distance Learning

Harding School of Theology provides learning opportunities for students who do not live in Searcy via Live Interactive Video Education. This format allows distance learning students to attend weekly classes that meet on campus along with local students and participate in class discussions in real time.

Harding has a strategic partnership with Global Christian Studies to help those serving churches outside the U.S. access graduate theological and ministry training from their home or office. GCS students will work toward a Master of Arts in Christian ministry and will complete the majority of courses through HST LIVE.

Apply for the Hogan-Cate Asian Missions Sabbatical

The Hogan-Cate Asian Missions Endowment honors the missionary efforts of Steve and Jeannie Cate in Indonesia and Gordon and Jane Hogan in Singapore. The endowment was established by the Tabalujan family in celebration of Tine and Carlo Tabalujan’s 60th wedding anniversary.

Each year, the endowment funds a sabbatical for an outstanding male or female missionary, church worker or ministry leader based in an a cappella church of Christ in Asia, including East and North Asia, South East Asia, South Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific.

The three-to-five-month sabbatical commences each August. Funds could cover airfare, housing on campus, food, transportation, tuition for audit or credit courses, Christian counseling, and visits to churches and ministries in and around Searcy, Arkansas. Submit applications to Dr. Monte Cox, dean of the College of Bible and Ministry, at mcox@harding.edu by Jan. 15, 2024. A committee will review all applications and award the grant by Jan. 31, 2024.

The sabbatical recipient is also expected to participate in Harding’s Inspire: Lectureship (conducted in the fall of each year) and other special events for spiritual renewal and to promote missions in Asia.

Are LIVE classes considered “on-campus” courses or “distance” courses?

All HST degree plans include a residency requirement — a number of courses that must be taken on the Searcy campus. Two on-campus courses are required for the Master of Arts and Master of Arts in Christian Ministry, and three for the Master of Divinity.

Students who attend the LIVE courses via a remote connection are considered distance students, and those courses do not count toward the residency requirement. One-week intensive courses are provided for distance students who need a more convenient option to meet the residency requirement.

What technology is required for a LIVE class?

Students in LIVE courses are required to have the following equipment:

  • Earbuds or headset with microphone
  • Laptop, tablet or desktop computer with camera
  • Internet access using a web browser such as FireFox 41.0.1 or higher, Google Chrome 46.0 or higher or Microsoft Internet Explorer 11 or higher.
  • A second monitor
When do LIVE courses meet?

Typically, classes meet for a three-hour block one day each week of the semester. Standard meeting times are Monday, Tuesday or Thursday at 8 a.m., 1 p.m., or 6 p.m. central time.

Some one-week intensive courses are also offered via the LIVE format. The standard intensive course meets for one week, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5p.m. Check the course syllabus for exact meeting times.
